David Letterman’s former assistant cum attorney was named Stephanie Annie Birkitt at birth on the 7th of January, 1975, in the city of Plymouth, New Hampshire. She was born to educated parents as her father was a dentist while her mum was an assistant principal. Following the huge support of her parents, when Stephanie Birkitt graduated from high school, she moved to Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina for further studies. Her time at Wake Forest University came to an end in 1997 when she graduated with a Bachelors degree in history and a minor in Communication.

With the vision and the desire to conquer more grounds, Stephanie Birkitt decided to go for a degree in Law after a couple of years. She was admitted to study Law at Yeshiva University’s Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. She graduated with a Juris Doctor degree, sat for the New York state and Connecticut bar examination in February 2009 and has been a licensed attorney since 2011.

Career

Stephanie Birkitt did not commence her career after graduation like most other career-minded people do. Instead, she began making headway from way back in her college days. She began as an intern with CBS News in 1996 on the ‘48 hours’, segment but made a quick switch to ‘The Late Night Show’, all in the same year. After graduation, and having proven her worth at CBS, Stephanie became a member of the CBS page program and was given the opportunity to work as an associate producer at ‘48 hours’ on segments for correspondent Erin Moriarty. With a keen desire to make further impact, she applied for a job as an office worker for David Letterman.

Having appeared on ‘The Late Night Show’ as an intern, Stephanie Birkitt had her first appearance on David Letterman’s show on 24 May 1996 as she was constantly seen as an office employee. Before her attraction of popularity through her appearance on the Late Night show, she had already served as co-host for ‘The Tony Mendez show’.

Stephanie Birkitt joined ‘The Late Night show again at David Letterman’s invitation on the 26th of December, 2000 four years after her last appearance. She served as an assistant to Letterman on his show as she was involved in the comic skit. In the reporting side of her career, Stephanie had a fair chance to shine as well. She reported from the sites of the Winter Olympics in 2002 and in 2006 and in the autumn of 2008, she made her final appearance on The Late Night Show’. This final show brought her total number of appearances on the show to a recorded career-defining 250 appearances.

Relationship and Controversies

It hasn’t been such a smooth sail for Stephanie Birkitt where it concerns relationships. Her first recorded boyfriend was Joe Halderman who was the producer of CBS crime series ’48 Hours’. They dated for a while, moved in together and lived Norwalk, Connecticut, until August 2009. In the same period she was with Halderman, Birkitt was also allegedly in a love affair with her former boss David Letterman. This was confirmed from entries in Stephanie’s diary which Joe Halderman found and tried to blackmail Letterman with. When the events of the blackmail and extortion came to light, Joe Halderman was sentenced to 6 months in jail with 1000 hours of community service on the 9th of March, 2010.

Moreso, David Letterman admitted to having sexual relations with most of his female staff while he was still married to his wife Regina Lasko. Stephanie Birkitt has since maintained privacy regarding her private life and has instead channeled her strength towards her legal practice as she is currently serving as an attorney in California.
