By 1945, there were 3.5 million survivors but the number drastically reduced because many died after the war. Some who survived the concentration camps were sick, injured or severely traumatized and could not survive.

The end of the world did not bring an end to their sufferings as most of them suffered from the trauma of liberation. It was difficult for some of them to adjust to life outside the camps.
