Betty was born Bessie Regina Norris on December 21, 1953, in Florida.
Her siblings formed a gospel group, Echoes of Joy when Bessie was just two. She sang with the group till she was eleven. Bessie changed her name to Betty Wright as her stage name.
Wright released her first album at the age of fourteen, My First Time Around.
In 1971, Betty released her hit Clean Up Woman, she was just 17 years old. The song went gold and ranked No 6 on Billboard Hot 100. She dropped some more hits like Where is the Love, Tonight Is the Night and Pure Love.
In 2006, Wright appeared on the TV show Making the Band, appointed by Sean Combs as a vocal coach for the new female group Danity Kane.
She mentored stars like Gloria Estefan and Jennifer Lopez.
