IBM believes that while communities are addressing societal requirements, research, technology, and innovation may help address environmental challenges.26 million people are forced into poverty each year by climate-related disasters and natural hazards, according to the World Bank.
For these people to be able to respond to climate change, support climate adaptation, and increase resilience, they require institutional, financial, and technical resources.
IBM sought to accelerate and scale solutions like those for mitigating climate change that benefit marginalized communities that are most at risk from environmental risks by bringing expertise and technology together, all while maintaining an environmental justice perspective.
The IBM Sustainability Accelerator Programme
Proposals for the upcoming IBM Sustainability Accelerator cohort are being accepted by IBM. At the end of 2024, selected projects will be announced. Every selected organization will receive up to two years of support from the IBM Sustainability Accelerator.
IBM creates a cohort of approximately five firms per year to concentrate on a certain area of sustainability issues. Any nonprofit or governmental entity is welcome to participate in the selection process, which entails a public RFP. All proposals go through conventional IBM compliance processes, after which they are reviewed, and assessed for viability and impact.

Selection Process
The specialists within IBM from several fields, including software, research, corporate environmental affairs, corporate social responsibility, and consulting, will contribute to the selection process.
The applicant’s degree of assistance to communities particularly at risk from environmental hazards, as well as its strategic emphasis and openness in measurement and reporting, will all be taken into account as part of the selection criteria.

Eligibility
Application of proposals are accepted from Worldwide governmental and nonprofit institutions. All these institutions are eligible to apply for the IBM Sustainability Accelerator.

Proposals from nonprofit organizations and governmental organizations worldwide are invited, and they must be submitted via the IBM Proposal Submission Portal by April 30, 2024.
