Al Green is an American singer and pastor. Best known for his 1970s singles “Tired of being alone” and “Take Me to the River”. He is recognizable by his soulful voice.

Born Albert Leornes Greene on April 13, 1946 to a sharecropper family. 10-year-old Al, started singing with his sister in the group called the Greene Brothers. After being sent out of the house by his father, Al devoted time to his passion. In 1968, he formed a group called “Al Greene & the Soul Mates”, they recorded the song “Back Up Train” which was a hit.

By 1969, Al went solo and released his album “Al Green Gets Next to You”, it was certified gold. Al’s second and third albums solidified his status as an accomplished singer.

In 1974, Al’s girlfriend Mary Woodson committed suicide at his home. He took this as a sign from God to change his life. By 1976, he established the Full Gospel Tabernacle church in Memphis where he preaches.

Is Al Green Still Alive or Dead?

Al Green is alive and certainly not slowing down at 76. He has not publicly disclosed any health issues, so it is safe to say this soulful singer is as fit as a horse.
