Is Amado Carrillo Fuentes Still Alive or Dead?

Amado Carrillo Fuentes was a Mexican drug lord who was in charge of the Juárez Cartel after assassinating his boss Rafael Aguilar Guajardo. He was nicknamed “El Señor de Los Cielos” (“The Lord of the Skies”), because of the large fleet of planes he used to transport drugs.

Amado was born on December 17, 1956. He was the nephew of Ernesto Fonseca Carrillo (a Mexican drug lord). He was a part of the Guadalajara Cartel and his Uncle served as mentor to him. He also worked with Pablo Escobar to smuggle drugs from Colombia to Mexico and eventually the United States.

He had a reputation of being ruthless and determined. In 1993, Amado assassinated his boss, Aguilar and set off the city’s worst ongoing bout of criminal violence. Amado took over the reign of Juárez Cartel and grew it to a multibillion dollar empire. It is believed he generated over $25 billion in the course of his career.

The pressure to arrest Amado had intensified and for fear of being captured, he underwent facial plastic surgery and abdominal surgery liposuction to alter his appearance. Amado died in theatre on July 4, 1997, at Santa Mónica Hospital in Mexico City. It is reported the respirator malfunctioned, however nobody has confirmed this claim.
