George Harrison was an English musician and singer-songwriter who achieved international fame as the lead guitarist of the Beatles. He wrote some of the songs of the Beatles like, “Taxman”, “Within You Without You”, “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”, “Here Comes the Sun” and “Something”.

Harrison was born on February 23, 1943, as the youngest of four children. He started listening to Django Reinhardt and Hoagy Carmichael and developed a strong passion for music. To encourage the young Harrison, his father got him a guitar for his 13th birthday. Soon Harrison formed a group with his band named, the Rebels.

In 1958, Harrison’s childhood friend, Paul McCartney urged him to audition for his band which included John Leno, and soon became a member of the Beatles. He was seen as the quiet member of the group and performed with the group until 1970. He launched his solo career with the single, “My Sweet Lord” and went on to collaborate with music legends.

In May 2001, George Harrison was undergoing treatment for lung cancer, by November cancer had spread to his brain. On 29 November 2001, Harrison died at the age of 58 years old.
