However, he turned his focus to acting. He got his big break in the television series Riverboat in 1959. Burt also guests starred in shows like Alfred Hitchcock and The Blue Angels.
Reynold starred in the critically acclaimed successful film Deliverance in 1972. He also starred in Smokey and the Bandit in 1977. He directed Boogie Nights which earned him 3 Academy Awards nominations.
