Rodolfo Vera Quizon Sr. OGH (July 25, 1928 – July 10, 2012) was a Filipino comedian and actor who went by the screen names Dolphy, Pidol, and Golay (1944).

For his comedic talent, exemplified by his long list of works on stage, radio, television, and film, he is widely regarded as the country’s King of Comedy.

He made his film debut as Rodolfo Quizon in Dugo at Bayan (I Remember Bataan) with Fernando Poe Sr.

when he was 19 years old.

It was the father of his future friend, actor Fernando Poe Jr., who gave him his first break in films as a character actor in minor roles.

He revealed his first talent fee was 5 pesos in a DZMM radio interview.

Dolphy began working in radio in the late 1940s, thanks to Conde Ubaldo, a radio writer, director, and producer.

He starred alongside Pancho Magalona, Tessie Quintana, and Baby Jane in the show Wag Naman.

His comedy duo with Panchito debuted on Conde Ubaldo’s radio shows.

Dolphy died on July 10, 2012, at the age of 83, at 20:34 (Philippine time, 01:34 UTC), just 15 days before his 84th birthday, from multiple organ failure caused by pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and acute renal failure
