Dame Maria Paula Figueiroa Rego, simply known in the limelight as Paula Rego, was a Portuguese artist born on January 26, 1935, in Lisbon, Portugal.

Rego started painting at the age of four years. Her mother was also an artist. Her works have helped change the world.

According to sources, her works reflect her concerns with social issues like abortion, female genital excision, human trafficking, domestic violence and child abuse.

Her painting, The Cadet and his Sister, from 1988 was sold at €1.6 million at an auction in July 2015.

Paula Rego was married to Victor Willing from 1959 to 1988 and they had three children together; Victoria Willing, Caroline Willing and Nick Willing.

In the year 2010, Rego received a Dame of the British Empire (DBE) award at the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

Is Paula Rego Alive?

Paula Rego is no more. She died on 8 June 2022 aged 87 in London. Her representative has confirmed the news of her death.
