Roy Clark was a country singer and musician. He is most recognizable for hosting Hee Haw, a televised country variety show, from 1969 to 1997. He is also well known for his country hits like “Yesterday, When I Was Young” and became a Country Music Hall of Famer in 2009.

Clark was born on April 15, 1933, into a family of seven. He started playing instruments at a young age because his father played the banjo, fiddle, and guitar, while his mother played piano. Clark was able to play the banjo, guitar, and mandolin.

In 1954, Jimmy Dean invited Clark to join his band, the Texas Wildcats and he became the lead guitarist. Clark eventually went solo making his debut on The Tonight Show in 1963. Clark became co-host of the syndicated sketch comedy program Hee Haw, which aired from 1969 until 1997. This propelled Clark to instant stardom and he became the highest-paid country music star, earning about $7 million yearly.

After a long and impactful life in country music, Roy Clark died on November 15, 2018, at the age of 85.
