The character Rose DeWitt Bukater is inspired by a real-life artist and studio potter, Beatrice Wood. Beatrice was right about the same age as Rose at the time of the disaster, like Rose, Beatrice did cross the ocean on big ships in a similar manner because her family stayed in France. James Cameron was inspired by Beatrice’s relationship between Marcel Duchamp and Henri Pierre Roche to create the love story between Rose, Jack, and Caledon Hockley.
