Ed Gein was born on August 27, 1906, to a fanatical Lutheran mother who constantly preached the evils of immorality to her sons. Ed grew up with his brother Henry and their mother and was quite devoted to her. It is reported the mother and son had a somewhat bizarre relationship, and he considered his mother to be his only true love.

In 1967, Ed was arrested when the decapitated body of Bernice Worden was found in his shed. After a thorough search of his property, other body parts were found like whole human bones and fragments, human skin covering several chair seats, and other horrific furniture made from human skin. It was discovered he dug up the graves of recently buried middle-aged women he thought resembled his mother and took the bodies home, where he tanned their skins to make his paraphernalia. The policemen who searched his home were traumatized, the sheriff, Art Schley reported died of heart failure from the trauma of what he saw in Ed’s home. Ed was declared insane and sent to a mental hospital.
