Gordon Meredith Lightfoot Jr. CC is a Canadian singer-songwriter and guitarist who is internationally recognized for success in country music. He is best known for hits like “If You Could Read My Mind”, “Sundown”, “Carefree Highway”, and “Rainy Day People”.

He was born on November 17, 1938. Lightfoot made his first performance at the age of four, his performance boosted his confidence and he went into a talent show. He learnt how to play the piano and guitar at the age of twelve.

Lightfoot released his first single, “(Remember Me) I’m the One” in 1962. The next year, he moved to the United Kingdom, and for one year he hosted BBC TV’s Country and Western Show. In 1966, he debuted his album, “Lightfoot”, between 1970 and 1977, he released seven hit albums.

Lightfoot has been married three times and has six children.

In 2006, Gordon Lightfoot suffered a stroke while performing but he was back on stage after nine days. In 2010, he was a victim of a death hoax originating from Twitter, however, Lightfoot dispelled the rumor. Lightfoot is still alive and released an album in 2020.
