Augusta, Georgia to an Italian-American father. He began wrestling at the age of 16 and his biggest influence was Superstar Billy Graham. Horgan met his wrestling idol Graham who helped him get his first wrestling match.
In 1979, Horgan won his first title NWA Southeastern Heavyweight Championship (Northern Division) and in 1980, he won the WWF Heavyweight Championship. He won the WCW World Heavyweight Championship six times and holds the record for the longest reign.
In 1982, Horgan made his acting debut in the sport drama, Rocky III. He went on to feature in several films like Mr. Nanny, Santa with Muscles, and 3 Ninjas: High Noon at Mega Mountain. In 2005, he starred in his own reality show, Hogan Knows Best.
