He was born in Queens. He worked with his brother Bob and produced rock concerts as Harvey & Corky Productions most of the 1970s. Harvey and Bob used profit from their promotion company to start an independent film company, Miramax.
The company released its first hit in 1982 The Secret Policeman’s Other Ball. By 1989, Miramax was the most successful independent studio in America. In 1994, the brothers sold Miramax to Disney for $80 million.
In 2005, the Weinstein brothers started another film distribution company, The Weinstein Company. In 2018, the company filed for bankruptcy due to a list of sexual abuse charges against Harvey.
In 2017, over a dozen women accused Harvey of sexual assault and rape which led to his arrest on May 25, 2018. On March 11, 2020, he was sentenced to 23 years in prison.
