Considered to be one of the most beautiful women, this British-American actress was the seventh-greatest female screen legend of Classic Hollywood cinema. She was the world’s highest-paid movie star in the 1960s.

Dame Elizabeth Rosemond Taylor DBE was born on February 27, 1932, in northwest London, England to an elite family, her father was an art dealer and her mother was an actress. Taylor started acting at the age of nine and her first film was There’s One Born Every Minute which was not successful. Her first successful film was Lassie, and also featured in Jane Eyre.

Taylor transitioned from a child actress to a more mature role, at the age of 18, she starred in the thriller Conspirator. In 1951, she starred in A Place in the Sun and she was praised by critics who said this was the first time she proved to the world she was an actress. Taylor soon became a toast for filmmakers and was the highest-paid film star in the world. She retired in 2007.

Taylor was married eight times to seven men and had four children. She was one of the first celebrities to publicly speak about HIV/AIDS, raising over $250 million for the cause. She was also a fashion icon, launching two bestseller perfumes Passion and White Diamond. Taylor was worth over $600 million.

Elizabeth Taylor battled several health issues, she was born with scoliosis, battled addictions, and had two hip surgeries. She died at age 79 on March 23, 2011, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
