Frankie Avalon is an American actor, singer, and former teen idol. He is well known for his role in the 1970s musical film Grease as Teen Angel, in which he sings “Beauty School Dropout” to Frenchy. He had over 30 charting U.S. Billboard singles from 1958 to late 1962.
Avalon was born on September 18, 1940, to Italian – American parents. He made his American network television debut playing the trumpet in the Honeymooners on The Jackie Gleason Show. In 1959, “Venus” (5 weeks No. 1) and “Why” went to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. He recorded other hits like “Just Ask Your Heart”, and “I’ll Wait for You.” Most of his hits were written and/or produced by Bob Marcucci.
Avalon’s screen debut was a short appearance in Jamboree. He featured in The Alamo Alakazam the Great, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, and Sail a Crooked Ship. He created Frankie Avalon Products, a line of health and cosmetic aids.
