Is Francis Joseph Still Alive Or Dead?

Franz Joseph was born on August 18, 1830. Franz was born in the Schonbrunn Palace in Vienna. Joseph’s birth coincided with the 65th anniversary of the death of Francis of Lorraine. Joseph was the eldest son of Archduke Franz Karl the younger son of Holy Roman Emperor Francis II who was married to his Princess Sophie of Bavaria. Archduke “Franzi” was brought up as a future Emperor by his mother.

In December 1848, Franz Joseph’s uncle who was known as Emperor Ferdinand abdicated the throne at Olomouc. This was as part of Minister President Felix zu Schwarzenberg’s plan to elapse the Revolutions of 1848 in Hungary at the time.

Franz Joseph grew up to become the emperor of Austria and reigned from 1848–1916 and also as king of Hungary and reigned from 1867–1916. Joseph during his reign split his empire into the Dual Monarchy.

After the split, Austria and Hungary then had to coexist as equal partners. In the year 1879, Emperor Joseph then formed an alliance with Prussian-led Germany.

Francis Joseph died on 21 November 1916 at 86. He died in Schönbrunn Palace, Vienna, Austria-Hungary and was buried in Imperial Crypt. Francis Joseph is not alive.
