Laurence Tureaud was born on May 21, 1952, as the youngest son in a family of twelve children. In 1970, he changed his name legally to Mr. T. He wrestled while in high school.
He started working as a bouncer at Rush Street club Dingbats Discotheque, which was when he invented the persona of Mr. T.
He worked his way to becoming a celebrity bodyguard working for the likes of Muhammed Ali, Joe Frazier, Michael Jackson and Diana Ross.
He began his acting career with Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky III in 1980 and he went on to feature in other movies like Penitentiary 2 and Bizarre.
He got the role of Sergeant Bosco “B. A.” Baracus, an ex-Army commando in The A-Team, which aired from 1983 to 1987.
Mr. T went on to star in other movies and TV commercials, at the peak of his career he was making $5 million a year.
