Richard Bruce Cheney is an American politician and businessman who served as the 46th vice president of the United States from 2001 to 2009 under President George W. Bush. He is currently the oldest living former U.S. vice president.

Cheney was born on January 30, 1941, in a family of five. He received his Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in political science from the University of Wyoming. In 1966, he started working as a staff aide for Gov. Warren Knowles of Wisconsin. By 1975, Cheney became White House Chief of Staff to President Ford.

In 1978, Cheney was elected to represent Wyoming in the U.S. House of Representatives where he served until 1989. He also served as Secretary of Defense for President George H. W. Bush. N January 2001, Cheney became the 46th vice president of America.

Cheney was a controversial figure, some people believed he had too much power for a Vice President, and they claim he influenced President Bush to invade Iraq in the “War on Terror”, following the 9\11 attack.

Cheney married his high school sweetheart Lynne Vincent in 1964, and they have two daughters, Elizabeth who is serving in the House of Representatives, and Mary.
