Van Dyke was born on December 18, 1925 in Missouri. In 1944, Dick joined the United States Army Air Force. He was denied enlistment for being underweight, he was eventually accepted into the Army as a radio announcer.
Van Dyke started his career as a radio DJ on WDAN in Danville, Illinois. He made his Broadway debut in The Girls Against the Boys in 1959.
He went on to play the lead role of Albert Peterson in Bye Bye Birdie winning a Tony for Best Featured Actor. Dick Van Dyke starred in the sitcom The Dick Van Dyke Show which aired from 1966 to 1969.
Van Dyke went on to feature in several movies like Curious George, Night at the Museum 1,2 & 3 and Mary Poppins Returns.
