He was born Andre Romelle Young in Compton. He was not really good in school so he focused on entertainment.

He started his career as a DJ of a club called Eve’s After Dark, after working, he would record demos.

In 1986, Dre met another rapper Ice Cube and teamed up with two other rappers to form the group N.W.A and released their first album Straight Outta Compton. The album was a success despite being banned from the airwaves.

After a dispute, Dre left the group and teamed up with Suge Knight, owner of Death Row Records, to release his album The Chronic. It was a hit and earned Dre a Grammy for Best Rapper.

In 1996, Dre left Death Row and started his own label Aftermath Entertainment and signed up a white rapper Eminem, which made his record label very successful.
