Summer was born LaDonna Adrian Gaines on December 31, 1948. In 1967, young Summer left home and went to New York to pursue her passion and by 1969, she released her single “If You Walkin’ Alone”. In 1975, she released “Love to Love You Baby” and it peaked as No. 2 on Billboard 100.
Summer went on to release more songs and won three American Music Awards.
In 1980, she launched her television show The Donna Summer Special. Summer recorded and released the album She Works Hard for the Money in 1983 and it went straight to No 1. on the Billboard 100 and would go on to win the Grammy Award for Best Inspirational Performance.
Summer tied the knot with her second husband Bruce Sudano, and they had two children who have followed their mother’s footsteps.

In 2012, it was disclosed Donna Summer had lung cancer, on May 17 of the same year, she lost the fight. She was interred in the Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens cemetery at Nashville.
