Jane Goodall was born Valerie Jane Morris-Goodall on April 3, 1934. Jane’s interest in chimpanzees was triggered when her father gave her a stuffed chimpanzee named Jubilee.

Grace moved to Gombe Stream National Park in (present-day Tanzania) in 1958 to study apes. In 1962, Grace went to Cambridge without a first degree to study a Ph.D. in ethology. She established the Jane Goodall Institute to support research in the Gombe National Park. Grace also established the Tchimpounga Chimpanzee Rehabilitation Centre in Congo.

Goodall is an outspoken environmental advocate. She is passionate about the environment, endangered species and safe and ethical treatment of animals. She is also outspoken about using animals for medical research, calling for alternative methods to research.

Jane Goodall suffers from prosopagnosia, a condition that makes it difficult to recognize familiar faces including her own. She is alive and still traveling around the world 300 days in a year to advocate for animals.
