King was born Lawrence Harvey Zeiger on November 19, 1933 in Brooklyn. After graduating from high school, he went on to work to support his mother. He got employed as a disc jockey at a radio station in Miami.
King changed his name in 1959 to “Larry King” when his manager claimed his surname was difficult to remember. Larry King Live began broadcasting on CNN in June 1985. He had a reputation for asking easy, open-ended questions, this made him attractive to important figures who wanted to state their position while avoiding being challenged. He also wrote a regular column in USA Today from 1982 to 2001.
Larry King Live aired its final episode December 16, 2010, after 25 years on CNN.
