Vicente Fernández Gómez was a Mexican singer and actor. He was a cultural icon, selling over 100 million records. His songs were mainly ranchers and other Mexican classics.
“El Rey de la Música Ranchera” as he was fondly called was born on February 17, 1940, in El Alto, Jalisco. The young Vicente was interested in movies and performing, at the age of 8, he was given a guitar.
Fernández released his first album La voz que estabas esperando and it was a hit. The song Volver Volver catapulted Fernández to national success.
He was dubbed the “Mexican Sinatra” by the US press. In 2009, he performed for an audience of 200,000.
He also tried his hands at acting, starring in movies like Tacos al carbón and La ley del monte.

In 2002, Vicente disclosed he had prostate cancer but he made full recovery. By 2012, he had a tumour removed from his liver.
Vicente was hospitalized in August 2021 after a fall at his range but on 12 December 2021, he died at the age of 81.
