Yoko Ono is a songwriter and peace activist. She is also the wife of murdered Beatles’ member John Lennon. Yoko Ono was born on February 18, 1933 in Tokyo. She was born into an elite family but the second world war ended that. Her family was greatly affected by the war.
Ono met John Lennon in 1966, Lennon was impressed by her positive attitude and peace campaign. On March 20, 1969, John and Ono were married. Both of them were activists and worked together to campaign for peace. They recorded “Give Peace a Chance”. In 1969, John formed a band with Ono called Plastic Ono Band.
On December 8, 1980, Ono and her husband were walking home, when he was shot dead in front of their Manhattan home. She released “Walking on Thin Ice (For John)” a few weeks after Lennon’s murder and it was Ono’s first success.
Ono released all her works with Lennon, “Every Man Has a Woman” was her final work with Lennon released in 1984. It went gold in the U.K and the United States.

Yoko Ono faced a lot of backlash for her relationship with Lennon, she was accused by the British press for being responsible for the Beatles break up and how she handled Lennon’s estate after he died. Ono is still very much alive and still talking about peace through her music and arts.
