The Royal House Chapel International (Ahenfie) on Saturday, 11 May 2019, showed compassion to 10 lactating mothers who were detained at the Tema General Hospital by paying their bills totalling GHS5,300.

The church’s Mother’s Day eve munificence was aimed at easing the plight of the mothers.

Its leadership also plans raising GHS10,000 to clear the bills of another set of 40 mothers who have been detained at the same hospital for months over their inability to pay their bills.

Speaking in an interview with Class91.3FM’s Ibrahim Obeng-Mensah after the donation exercise on Saturday, the leader of Royla House Chapel’s Voices in Worship, Pastor Ayittey Nii Tettey Albert, said the intervention was borne out of divine calling.

He said the church did a similar thing in 2011 and pledged their continuous support to the hospitals. He also called on other churches, benevolent organisations and the Social Welfare Department to come to the rescue of the detained mothers.

The Deputy Director of Nursing Services at the Tema General Hospital, Mrs Gifty Ama Bonzie, lauded the initiative of the church and appealed to other institutions to support the facility.

According to her, the swelling population of detained mothers is having a toll on their operations.
