The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the Austro-Hungarian heir on June 28, 1914, was one of the causes of the war, Austria-Hungary declared war against Serbia for the death of their heir and Russia came to Serbia’s defence.

The Otto Empire, Germany and Austria-Hungary formed the “Central Powers” while Britain, France, Russia, and Serbia informed the “Allies of World War I”.

The end of the war led to the fall of all continental empires in Europe (including the German Empire, Russian Empire, Ottoman Empire and Austria-Hungary).
