Yolanda Saldívar is a former nurse who was convicted of the murder of Selena Quintanilla Pérez in 1995. Saldívar was the president of Selena’s fan club and the manager of her boutiques before she fell out of favour with the singer.

Yolanda became a fan of Serena after she attended the singer’s concert. She literally stalked the singer till Serena’s father allowed her to start a fan club.

Due to the success of the fan club, Yolanda earned Serena’s trust and promoted her to manage her boutique Selena Etc.

In 1995, Serena’s family discovered Yolanda was embezzling money from them. She was fired but instead of leaving them alone, Yolanda arranged to meet with Serena.

On March 31, 1995, during the meeting with Serena, Saldívar took a revolver from her purse and shot Selena as she tried to flee. Serena died later in the hospital.

On October 26, 1995, Yolanda was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Serena Quintanilla. Yolanda Saldivar is alive and currently serving out her sentence at Mountain View Unit, a maximum security women’s prison in Gatesville, Texas.
