Little Richard was an American musician, singer, and songwriter. He had a career spanning five decades and is best known for his hit single, “Long Tall Sally”. He is a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1986. Described as the “Architect of Rock and Roll”, Little Richard has collaborated with some of the greatest like Elvis Presley, Bill Haley, and Jerry Lee Lewis.
He was born Richard Wayne Penniman on December 5, 1932, into a religious Pentecostal family. Richard started singing at a young age in church, after high school, he went on to work for gospel music promoter, Clint Brantley. In 1947, he opened for Sister Rosetta Tharpe and resolved to be a music artist.
In 1955, he released his first hit “Tutti Frutti” which peaked at No. 21 on the Billboard 100. The next year, released “Long Tall Sally” and went on to release several more hits over the decades.

Little Richard had several health issues, he had to undergo hip replacement surgery in 2009 and suffered a heart attack in 2013. Richard died on May 9, 2020. He was 87 years old.
