Van Morrison is an Irish singer-songwriter and instrumentalist whose recording career spans six decades. He has won two Grammy Awards and is best known for his classic, Moondance. In 2016, he was knighted for services to the music industry and tourism in Northern Ireland.
Morrison was born on August 31, 1945. He discovered his passion for music as a young child in primary school listening to Jelly Roll Morton, Ray Charles, and Lead Belly. At the age of eleven, his father bought him his first guitar, he was exposed to a wide variety of music and by 17, he was touring Europe with the band, the International Monarchs.
Morrison began his solo career in 1967 and recorded the album Blowin’ Your Mind! and which peaked at No. 10 on Billboard. In 2007, the song Brown Eyed Girl was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. He released his third album Moondance, and it became a classic. He went on to release several unforgettable albums over the years.
